AI4VET4AI: Advancing AI Competencies in VET Through MOOC-Based Teaching and Learning

The AI4VET4AI project aims to strengthen the capacity of VET institutions to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into teaching, learning, and sector-specific vocational practices. As European labour markets increasingly require digital and AI-related skills, VET providers must modernize their pedagogical approaches in alignment with the European Skills Agenda and DigComp frameworks (European Commission, 2020). AI-supported tools, such as adaptive learning systems, intelligent tutoring, and simulation environments, enable personalised learning pathways, real-time feedback, and industry-relevant training aligned with the demands of Industry 4.0 (Holmes et al., 2022).

Within this context, MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) form a core component of the AI4VET4AI capacity-building strategy. MOOCs provide scalable, flexible, and high-quality AI training for both VET teachers and students. They support the development of foundational AI literacy, sector-specific AI applications, and innovative pedagogies that promote human–AI collaboration in classrooms and workshops. As previous research indicates, MOOCs enhance digital readiness, facilitate lifelong learning, and ensure broad access to cutting-edge content across VET ecosystems (Jansen & Konings, 2017).

By integrating MOOC-based learning into its methodology, AI4VET4AI empowers VET schools to adopt evidence-based AI practices, improve instructional design, and expand learners’ employability in data-driven professions. This approach contributes directly to building a modern, inclusive, and innovation-oriented VET system across partner countries.
